There will be 500,000 seasonal hires this holiday season. Half of them will work for Amazon
Amazon is planning to hire 250,000 seasonal workers in the U.S. for the upcoming holiday season. This substantial hiring initiative may represent nearly half of all seasonal retail hiring this year. Amazon's consistent need for workers highlights its strong market position compared to some competitors. Overall seasonal hiring across retail is expected to be the lowest in 16 years, with fewer than 500,000 positions. Amazon offers various job types, including full-time, part-time, and seasonal roles. Regular employees will earn an average of $23 per hour with benefits, while seasonal workers can earn over $19 per hour. Notably, major retailers like Target and Kohl's haven't released their hiring targets this year, contrasting with Amazon's transparency. Smaller retailers, such as Bath & Body Works and Spirit Halloween, have announced specific hiring numbers. The lack of major retail hiring announcements suggests retailers anticipate reduced consumer spending. Elevated prices due to tariffs and inflation are expected to hinder holiday spending. The National Retail Federation forecasts modest holiday retail sales growth amidst consumer uncertainty.
