The governors of California, Oregon, and Washington have announced a partnership called the West Coast Health Alliance to develop their own vaccine guidelines. This move is a direct response to what they perceive as the politicization of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The alliance aims to issue guidelines based on evidence-based recommendations from national medical organizations. They also plan to share principles for building public trust in vaccines. This collaboration is the first public health partnership among blue states to push back against Trump administration policies. The governors expressed concern that the CDC is now peddling ideology instead of science, which they believe will have severe health consequences. This action follows recent restrictions on COVID-19 vaccines to high-risk groups. Other states, particularly in the Northeast, are reportedly considering similar coordinated vaccine recommendations. The HHS, however, criticized these Democrat-run states, blaming them for damaging public trust in health agencies.
