A Pentagon official, Emil Michael, stated that Anthropic remains a "supply chain risk." This contradicts Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick's recent assertion that the company is "back on the right side." The Trump administration is divided on how the military should utilize AI models from leading labs like Anthropic. Michael reiterated on X that Anthropic is a designated Supply Chain Risk for the Department of Defense and the Defense Industrial Base. Earlier, Lutnick expressed trust in Anthropic and its CEO Dario Amodei, stating they had met the administration's requirements. Personality conflicts under Amodei's leadership had previously strained the relationship. However, Anthropic has been increasingly involving co-founder Tom Brown in its dealings with the White House. A federal judge had previously invalidated the Pentagon's blacklisting of Anthropic as a supply chain risk. Despite this, the company is involved in ongoing litigation regarding a separate Pentagon designation. Therefore, Anthropic has not entirely resolved its issues with the Trump administration, especially as Tom Brown becomes more prominent.
