Trump declares Gaza war over, as he heads to Israel ahead of hostages' release

President Trump announced the Gaza war is over and expressed confidence in the ceasefire he brokered. He was speaking to reporters en route to Israel, the first stop on his Middle East trip. The ceasefire ended the two-year war that began after Hamas's October 7 attacks. Hostages and prisoners are expected to be released as Trump arrives. Hamas will release live hostages and the bodies of deceased hostages, including Americans. Israel will release Palestinian prisoners in exchange. Trump believes the ceasefire will hold because both sides are weary of fighting and support his peace plan. He claims to have guarantees from both sides and resolved differences with Netanyahu. After Israel, Trump will travel to Egypt for a conference endorsing his plan. Leaders from various countries are expected to attend, but Iran declined the invitation. Netanyahu was not invited, but Palestinian President Abbas will participate.
