Trump Seeks $6 Million Legal Fee Reimbursement For Dismissed Georgia Election Case

President Donald Trump is seeking $6.26 million from the state of Georgia to cover his legal expenses in the now-dismissed election interference case. This request is based on a Georgia law that allows defendants to claim attorney fees if a prosecutor is disqualified due to improper conduct and the case is subsequently dismissed. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis was disqualified from the case over an "appearance of impropriety" due to her relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade. The Georgia Court of Appeals and Supreme Court upheld this disqualification. The case ultimately ended in late November 2025, when the replacement special prosecutor declined to pursue charges. Trump's motion details over 200 pages of documentation supporting the requested reimbursement. Significant portions of the funds were allocated to three different law firms representing him in the case. Trump's lead attorney stated the request is for reasonable fees incurred in defending against a politically motivated and rightfully dismissed case. Superior Judge Scott McAfee will decide whether to award the fees, which would be paid from the district attorney's office budget. The judge must grant the motion if he deems the amount reasonable. Other co-defendants in the case may also pursue reimbursement for their legal costs. Trump has pleaded not guilty in the Georgia case, and this was the last remaining criminal prosecution against him.
