Trump Shares Image Of $100 Bill Featuring His Signature
President Donald Trump shared a photo on Truth Social of a $100 bill with his signature, marking the first time a living president's signature will appear on U.S. paper currency. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated this recognizes Trump's economic achievements and the nation's upcoming 250th anniversary. The Treasury announced in March that Trump's signature would be included alongside the Treasury Secretary's on future currency. U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach echoed these sentiments, calling it appropriate and well-deserved recognition of Trump's economic policies. However, Senators Elizabeth Warren and Jeff Merkley questioned the decision, deeming it a political move that doesn't address economic issues. They inquired about the rationale, Trump's involvement, and the cost to taxpayers. The senators urged the Treasury to focus on pressing economic challenges like inflation and housing costs instead. Separately, the Commission of Fine Arts approved designs for a commemorative gold coin featuring Trump. This coin depicts him in a suit but is not currently listed for release by the U.S. Mint in 2026.
