Two Thirds Of Americans Still Think It's A Bad Time To Buy A House
Buying a house in America is exceptionally difficult for most people right now. High home prices and significantly increased mortgage rates are the primary culprits. Many Americans also depleted their savings due to recent high inflation, hindering their ability to save for down payments. Geopolitical tensions and job market uncertainties also contribute to a negative outlook. Consequently, renting is becoming a more appealing or even the only viable option. A recent Gallup poll reveals that two-thirds of U.S. adults believe it's a bad time to buy a house. Although this is a slight improvement from recent years, it represents a drastic shift from pre-pandemic sentiment. Confidence in buying a home is at its lowest point since Gallup began surveying in 1978. Before 2022, over half of Americans always considered it a good time to buy, even during the 2008 housing crisis. The current market conditions have significantly dampened the desire to purchase homes.
