Uber India Starts Offering Drivers Gigs Collecting and Classifying Info For AI Models

Uber India has launched a new initiative allowing rideshare and delivery drivers to earn extra income. Drivers can now utilize their downtime or work after hours to classify data for AI systems. These "digital tasks" involve activities such as reviewing photos, counting objects, classifying text, recording audio, and digitizing receipts. This new program aims to leverage the existing driver network for AI data labeling. Previously, these tasks were handled by external contractors. Uber AI Solutions sees promising early results and plans to expand the offering globally. The initiative is currently available in 12 Indian cities. Tens of thousands of drivers are already participating in these digital tasks. This program not only provides a new income stream for drivers but also supports Uber's enterprise customers' generative AI models and consumer applications. The company is eager to scale this new feature.
