Ubisoft Cancelled a Post-Civil War Assassin's Creed Last Year
Ubisoft's ambitious new Assassin's Creed game, set during the American Civil War and Reconstruction era, has reportedly been cancelled. The game would have featured a Black former slave from the South as its protagonist. Players would have followed his journey west and his eventual recruitment into the Assassins. He would then return to the South to fight for justice. A significant part of his struggle would have involved confronting the rise of the Ku Klux Klan. This information comes from interviews with five anonymous current and former Ubisoft employees. These individuals spoke to Game File about the cancelled project. They expressed enthusiasm for the game's concept. However, they also conveyed frustration with its cancellation. They believe Ubisoft cancelled the game due to fear of controversy.
