Ubuntu 26.10, codenamed "Stonking Stingray," has been released and is now available for download. This new version is powered by the upcoming Linux 7.3 kernel. It features the latest GNOME 51 desktop environment. A significant security enhancement is TPM-backed full disk encryption support, even on systems lacking a hardware root of trust. The Settings application has been updated to indicate if a computer is certified for Ubuntu. Notably, Ubuntu 26.10 includes 100% Rust coreutils for improved security and performance. The App Center has been enhanced with a unified view for Snap and Debian package details. A dedicated Drivers page allows users to review available graphics drivers, including NVIDIA options. Ubuntu 26.10 also introduces an optional AI-powered speech-to-text tool named Myna. Security and software updates for this release will be provided for nine months, until July 2027.
