US Control Of Venezuela Could Last For Years, Trump Says

The White House has made new statements regarding Venezuela's transition period. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the US would dictate decisions for the Venezuelan government, headed by Acting President Delcy Rodriguez. Rodriguez, considered a loyalist to the former Maduro regime, pushed back strongly, asserting Venezuela governs itself. Vice President JD Vance indicated the US controls Venezuela's oil sales, allowing them only when serving American interests. President Trump suggested US oversight of Venezuela could last for years, involving oil extraction for profit. He claimed the interim government is compliant and that the US will rebuild Venezuela profitably, lowering oil prices. The New York Times reported Trump expects to run Venezuela and extract its oil for years. Secretary of State Marco Rubio outlined a three-phase plan for indefinite US control over Venezuelan oil sales. While Republican lawmakers largely support these actions, Democrats expressed concerns about a protracted intervention without clear legal authority. Blowback is anticipated due to Venezuela's fractured factions and armed groups.
