US Government 'Took Control' of a Botnet Run by Chinese Government Hackers, Says FBI Director

The FBI seized a massive botnet operated by the Chinese government hacking group, Flax Typhoon. This botnet comprised numerous internet-connected devices and targeted critical infrastructure globally, including corporations, media outlets, universities, and government agencies. Director Christopher Wray announced that the FBI executed court-authorized operations to take control of the botnet's infrastructure. Once in control, the FBI removed malware from compromised devices. However, the hacking group attempted to migrate their bots to new servers and launched a DDoS attack against the FBI. This action demonstrates the collaborative efforts between the FBI and its partners to combat cyber threats and protect critical infrastructure.
