US Services Surveys Show Continued Expansion In June: Jobs Up, Inflation Down
US manufacturing experienced a minor dip in June, though it remains in expansion. The US Services sector PMI surveys presented a mixed but still expansionary picture for June. The S&P Global US Services PMI slightly increased to 51.2, while the ISM US Services PMI decreased to 54. Overall business growth in the services economy accelerated to its strongest point since the Middle East conflict began. However, the pace of growth is considered lacklustre compared to earlier in the year. Survey data suggest the economy is growing at an annualized rate of 1.2% for the second quarter. Business growth expectations for the year ahead improved but remained subdued due to economic and geopolitical uncertainties. Elevated price pressures continue to be a significant factor affecting the services economy. Despite some easing, costs rose steeply, leading to higher service rates and customer pushback. Nevertheless, the prospect of price falls stimulating sales offers hope for future growth and inflation outlooks.
