US To Release Heating Oil Reserve In Northeast To Lower Prices

The U.S. Department of Energy has announced a heating oil exchange to lower costs for winter. This proposal involves exchanging up to 315,000 barrels of ultra-low sulfur distillate. This product is used for home heating and shares specifications with diesel, which has seen high prices. The exchange aims to mitigate supply chain issues and keep the Northeast Home Heating Oil Reserve stocked. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright stated the administration is committed to lowering energy costs. Borrowing companies must return the same volume of fuel oil plus a premium. This action was prompted by letters from Maine senators concerned about high heating oil costs. The department will loan heating oil from Connecticut, Maine, and Massachusetts, with deliveries by November 13th. Diesel prices have remained over $6 per gallon, with gasoline prices recently dropping slightly. Oil prices have hovered around $100 per barrel. The administration previously loaned crude oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, lowering its levels significantly. President Trump also suggested permanently allowing year-round use of E-15 gasoline.
