Google Sheets is launching Sheets canvas, a new Gemini-powered feature. This capability transforms spreadsheets into custom, interactive applications using natural language prompts. Sheets canvas acts as a dynamic visualization layer directly on top of spreadsheet data. It allows for end-to-end creation of advanced visualizations without coding, formulas, or external tools. The applications are fully read-write, meaning changes in the canvas instantly update the source sheet and vice-versa. Users can easily refine the canvas by prompting Gemini for edits to layout, design, and functionality. Because it's built within Google Sheets, Sheets canvas inherits familiar sharing and collaboration tools. This enables users to create various applications like Kanban boards, dashboards, and virtual whiteboards. The feature is currently available on the web with English language settings enabled and requires Workspace smart features. Administrators can manage access, and end users will find the Gemini icon in the Sheets side panel. Rollout begins in August 2026 for different domain types and is available on specific Business, Enterprise, Consumer, and Education plans. Usage is subject to per-user limits, with more information available in the Help Center.
