We built a pet medication tracker because every other app failed us

The author and their partner adopted a dog which led to increased responsibility for pet care, including medication and vet visits. They initially used Google Calendar and pet apps, but found them lacking in organization and features. As developers, they decided to build their own app, ZooMinder, to address these issues, focusing on simplicity and clarity. ZooMinder organizes pet health schedules, tracking medications, appointments, and providing notifications. It utilizes an offline-first architecture with local SQLite storage, syncing data with Supabase when online for uninterrupted access. The app was built using Flutter, Android first, and includes features like custom notification sounds and in-app purchases. The development process highlighted the challenges of building a "simple" app. Future plans include family plans, responsibility assignment, and vet-oriented tools. The author encourages users to try ZooMinder, provide feedback, and join as beta testers.
