We open-sourced 449 real equipment financing quotes so nobody has to trust our math
Commercial equipment financing sites often obscure how monthly payments are calculated, lacking transparency regarding APRs and amortization schedules. Equipment Capital Index aims to change this by revealing the real per-machine prices and amortization schedules for financing. They have now published their underlying dataset to allow for verification and further development. This dataset comprises aggregate financing benchmarks for real machines across various categories, including construction, agriculture, trucking, power equipment, and material handling. It is meticulously compiled from 449 individually priced machines, not from survey estimates or fabricated averages. The current snapshot shows average APRs ranging from 7.75% to 8.50% across these categories. Overall, the site-wide average APR is 8.17% for the tracked machines. The core principle behind this initiative is that every number traces back to a real machine with a sourced price and a verifiable amortization calculation. The aggregation logic is also reproducible, ensuring a single source of truth. This data is accessible through multiple channels: a live JSON API, a self-updating GitHub repository, and a permanent DOI on Zenodo for reliable access. Developers building tools related to commercial equipment costs are encouraged to use this data directly or cite its source.
