Wegovy just became available in an unexpected place

Novo Nordisk's new pill version of its popular weight-loss drug, Wegovy, is now available through Amazon Pharmacy, increasing accessibility for those paying out of pocket. This oral medication will start at $149 per month without insurance, with eligible insurance potentially lowering the cost to $25. Higher doses will be priced around $299 monthly. Novo Nordisk aims to reach individuals who have been waiting for a suitable weight-management solution. The company recently secured FDA approval for the oral Wegovy, beating rival Eli Lilly, whose similar drug is expected to be approved in March. Novo Nordisk was also first with the injectable version of Wegovy, but faced supply issues that allowed Eli Lilly to gain market share. Both companies had previously agreed to make their upcoming weight-loss pills available for $149 out of pocket through the Trump administration's initiative. Beyond Amazon, Wegovy's oral form will also be accessible via TrumpRx, a future portal designed to lower prescription drug prices. Amazon has been expanding its healthcare presence since launching its online pharmacy in 2020, acquiring telehealth provider One Medical in 2022, and introducing drug vending kiosks last month. These developments suggest a future of medicine characterized by increased telehealth and more affordable drug options.
