What Are World Leaders Getting Paid?

The highest-earning world leader is Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong with an annual salary of $1.69 million. Viola Amherd, Switzerland's president, earns $570,000 annually. Many of the best-paid leaders come from Anglophone countries, including the US president ($400,000) and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Hong Kong's Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu earns $700,000, while European Commission President Ursula van der Leyen makes $358,000. Kenya's President William Ruto earns the highest relative salary, at 2,000% of his country's per-capita GDP. Tanzania's and South Africa's presidents also earn over 1,000% of their respective per-capita GDPs. Singapore's Wong earns 1,158% of his country's per-capita GDP. Switzerland's Amherd, Australia's Albanese, and New Zealand's Luxon also have high relative salaries. US President Biden earns 490% of the US per-capita GDP.
