Wife Jailed After Caging, Starving & Boiling Husband With 60 Chihuahuas As Belgian Court Rejects Menopause Excuse

A Belgian woman was sentenced to seven years in prison for torturing her husband. The victim, a 48-year-old man, escaped from his home after weeks of abuse, emaciated and barefoot. His wife had locked him in a dog kennel and subjected him to regular beatings, starvation, and humiliation. The abuse included physical assaults with objects like chairs and pots. He was also forced to clean up dog excrement with bleach, severely injuring his feet. The woman initially claimed her husband was harming himself and tried to mislead authorities. Video evidence showed her laughing and filming the abuse. The prosecution highlighted his severe physical deterioration, comparing photos from before and after the abuse. The defense attributed her actions to early menopause, stress, and the large number of chihuahuas she owned. The judge rejected these claims and imposed the prison sentence, in addition to a fine for animal mistreatment. The victim's lawyer is seeking damages to cover potential therapy costs.
