Wingware: Wing Python IDE Version 12 - July 20, 2026
Wing Python IDE version 12 is now available, featuring deep integration with the Claude Code AI coding agent. This release introduces a new Claude Code tool, a Tasks tool for managing AI agent workflows, and MCP servers that grant the agent access to Wing's code analysis, testing, and debugging capabilities. This integration makes directing AI agents within Wing more efficient and cost-effective compared to terminal use. Wing 12 also incorporates AI-driven Code Actions, FIX actions, and a "Write Tests" feature. Enhancements include pseudo-terminal support for OS Commands and Debug I/O, flexible tool placement in editor splits, and a reorganized Tools menu. Automatic test discovery simplifies the testing setup process, and the Preferences dialog now offers search functionality. The product line has been simplified into Wing Pro, which includes AI features, and Wing Classic, a traditional IDE without AI capabilities. Wing 101 remains the free IDE for beginners. Project files created in Wing 12 are not compatible with older versions, requiring users to save them under new names. Existing Wing 11 and earlier versions can be installed and used independently.
