Witkoff heads to Oslo, plans Russia trip for peace talks
White House envoy Steve Witkoff is traveling to Oslo for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders. These discussions aim to develop a peace proposal to present to Russia. President Zelensky, the Norwegian Prime Minister, representatives from the U.K., France, Germany, and Poland, along with EU and NATO officials, are expected to attend. Following Oslo, Witkoff plans to visit Russia to present these ideas to President Vladimir Putin. The meetings build upon prior discussions where Zelensky agreed to advance proposals for a durable peace agreement. American, Ukrainian, and European representatives collaborated recently to create these proposals. The trip also intends to secure the release of a wrongly detained American teacher in Russia. Discussions are proceeding on two main tracks. One focuses on securing Ukraine's sovereign and prosperous future with security guarantees and economic frameworks. The other track works on creating conditions for a durable peace by developing a comprehensive proposal for Russia and exploring new security architectures. President Trump has directed an intensive process to end the war and establish lasting peace.
