FBI agents arrested Jessica Bowie, a 35-year-old Albany woman, for allegedly plotting an ISIS-inspired bomb attack on the New York State Capitol. Bowie was charged with attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization. The plot, according to authorities, included plans to kill state senators and destroy the building before fleeing to Syria. Bowie allegedly pledged allegiance to ISIS and used social media to spread anti-American messages and praise terrorist attacks. She conducted reconnaissance of the Capitol multiple times and purchased materials for a bomb. An FBI confidential source engaged with Bowie, who expressed her commitment to jihad and her desire to join ISIS. Bowie was arrested after meeting with informants and receiving a firearm and a fake explosive device. She told agents she expected to go to prison for life and faces significant federal penalties if convicted. New York Governor Kathy Hochul expressed gratitude to law enforcement and assured the public of continued security measures.
