XRP Faces No Immediate Quantum Threat As Only 0.03% Supply Seen At Risk: Analyst

The XRP Ledger's developer testnet achieved quantum security in December 2025, predating widespread awareness of the threat. Approximately 300,000 XRP accounts, holding 2.4 billion XRP, are currently quantum-secure because their public keys remain unexposed as they have never transacted. Only two dormant accounts, inactive for over five years, have exposed public keys holding a combined 21 million XRP, representing a small fraction of the total supply. This contrasts with Bitcoin, where older wallets like those potentially belonging to Satoshi Nakamoto have exposed public keys. The XRP Ledger benefits from built-in key rotation, allowing users to update security without changing their address, a feature not native to Bitcoin. The network's amendment system also facilitates faster protocol changes compared to Bitcoin's slower consensus model. In December 2025, XRPL Labs implemented ML-DSA, a NIST-approved post-quantum signature standard, on AlphaNet. This quantum security upgrade also encompassed Quantum Accounts, Quantum Transactions, and Quantum Consensus mechanisms for validator communications. The network's proactive stance positions it favorably for evolving quantum computing threats.
