Young Republicans demand leaders involved in "vile" racist chat resign
Leaked chat messages revealed racist and offensive language used by Young Republican leaders. These messages, exchanged over several months, contained hate speech, antisemitism, and praise for Hitler. The Young Republican National Federation condemned the language and demanded resignations. Multiple state chapters, including Kansas and New York, were implicated. The Kansas Young Republicans were disbanded due to their members' involvement. New York Assemblymember Mike Reilly fired his chief of staff, Peter Giunta, for his offensive comments. Vermont Governor Phil Scott called for state Senator Samuel Douglass' resignation. The chats also included disturbing discussions of violence and sexual assault. Several individuals apologized, while others questioned the messages' accuracy. Multiple politicians, including Elise Stefanik and Mike Lawler, condemned the language. Kathy Hochul described the chat as "vile." Vice President JD Vance criticized those condemning the chats, focusing on a situation where Jay Jones apologized for texts he sent in 2022.
