There is a growing trend where political figures are suggesting regime change operations against various leaders. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has publicly urged the United States, particularly under a potential Trump administration, to pressure Russia. Zelensky specifically called for an operation against Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of Chechnya and a strong ally of Vladimir Putin. He drew a parallel to the US-backed efforts to remove Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro as an example. Zelensky believes targeting Kadyrov would make Putin reconsider his actions in Ukraine. Earlier, Zelensky even made a "joke" suggesting Putin himself could be a target for a US decapitation strike. Such rhetoric could provoke retaliatory actions from Russia, which has been increasingly targeting Kyiv. Hundreds of thousands of Chechen troops are currently fighting for Russia in Ukraine. In response, Kadyrov has issued a counter-threat, stating that he could bring Zelensky to Chechnya if ordered. Kadyrov has been a staunch supporter of Putin and has ruled Chechnya since 2007. Recently, large Chechen troop contingents have held pro-Kremlin displays of military strength.
