Zelensky speaks to Witkoff, Kushner amid U.S.-Ukraine crisis

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held his first discussion with President Trump's envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, since recent tensions escalated. The call addressed the ongoing crisis and American endeavors to rekindle peace negotiations with Russia. This interaction marks a significant development following a diesel deal between Trump and Russia ten days prior, which had heightened friction. During the conversation, Zelensky voiced his belief that the Trump administration was responsible for imposing restrictions on Starlink and Starshield satellite systems critical to the Ukrainian military. He suggested that a presidential decision from Trump could immediately reverse these limitations. Zelensky indicated that the message to restrict satellite speed originated from the U.S. government, a view shared by Ukrainian generals and his administration. He clarified that SpaceX technically implemented these restrictions. However, Secretary of State Marco Rubio publicly denied any U.S. government involvement in the Starlink limitations, asserting that service had been restored. Ukrainian officials, conversely, dispute Rubio's claim, indicating ongoing issues.
